Abdominal Pain

Patients often have difficulty describing abdominal pain. It can seem vague and hard to define. Everyone has occasional abdominal pain caused by gas, constipation, or diarrhea.

When should you call a doctor? In general, you should call your TDDC physician or seek emergency help if your abdominal pain is sudden and severe, and/or is accompanied by fever or vomiting. In the case of more chronic abdominal pain, you should seek help if it lasts longer than a couple of weeks, and/or if you notice blood in your stool.

Note – blood in your stool should never be ignored.
