GERD
GERD, gastroesophageal reflux disease, is simply chronic acid reflux. Patients who experience reflux more than twice per week – every week – are diagnosed with GERD.
Left untreated, GERD can cause permanent damage which can lead to cancer of the esophagus. Because of the risk of untreated reflux, we recommend that you have a gastroenterologist diagnose and oversee your treatment. Many medicines are available over the counter but you should resist the urge to self medicate and make an appointment with a TDDC gastroenterologist.
