Ulcerative Colitis

Ulcerative colitis is a chronic disease of the outermost lining of the colon and rectum. Symptoms include bloody diarrhea, abdominal pain, and cramping. Medications are required to control the symptoms, and sometimes surgery is required. Because of the serious nature of the illness, you should be treated only by a specially trained gastroenterologist.

Ulcerative colitis, in addition to Crohn’s Disease, are grouped together under the name Inflammatory Bowel Disease or IBD. You can read about Crohn’s Disease here
