About Mark Douglas Porta Jr., M.D.
Why did you choose to specialize in Gastroenterology?
I chose Gastroenterology because I enjoy the opportunity to interact and speak with patients on a daily basis. I believe this subspecialty provides both a medical and surgical approach to treatments. The procedural modalities available allow for both treatment and preventative therapies as well. I enjoy taking part in the evolution within the field of gastroenterology and look forward to seeing what the future holds.
Do you have a specialty of interest within GI?
No specific interest within GI at present.
Where did you study?
I went to Louisiana State University and graduated with a bachelors in basic science. I attended medical school at Louisiana State University in New Orleans from 2008-2012. I received my Internal Medicine training at Louisiana State University in Baton Rouge from 2012-2015. I completed subspecialty training in Gastroenterology and Hepatology at Louisiana State University in Shreveport from 2015-2018.
What certifications do you hold?
Board Certified in Internal Medicine, Board Eligible in Gastroenterology
What do you and your family enjoy doing in your spare time?
On my days off, I enjoy spending time with my wife, family, and friends. My passion outside the field of medicine is music. I have played electric and acoustic guitar for over 20 years and counting. I also enjoy playing golf and tennis.
