AspireAssist Weight Loss Procedure

The AspireAssist® is a non-surgical weight-loss method that helps people lose weight by reducing the amount of calories the body absorbs. It is made for adults aged 22 or older with a Body Mass Index (BMI) between 35 and 55, and who have been unable to lose weight with diet and exercise alone. The AspireAssist is designed for long-term use along with lifestyle therapy and medical monitoring. Please note that the AspireAssist Weight Loss Procedure is only offered in some our Houston-area locations.

How does AspireAssist work?

First, patients undergo a procedure under light sedation to place a tube down the mouth, into the stomach and out of the body through a half-inch incision in the abdomen. This procedure is similar to having a feeding tube placed. Most patients go home within 1 to 2 hours after the procedure.

Patients have a small button on the surface of the skin where the tube exits the body. About 20 to 30 minutes after eating, patients will “aspirate” as much as 30% of their meal in the privacy of a restroom. Patients aspirate between 2 to 30 times a day.

How much weight do people lose with AspireAssist?

In the U.S. clinical studies, people who completed one year lost an average of 37 pounds, and the most successful people lost more than 100 pounds.

What support is available with AspireAssist?

The AspireAssist includes a comprehensive program with medical, nutritional and community support. Patients receive medical follow-up care as long as they’re using AspireAssist to ensure patients are on track with their weight loss goals and to ensure they’re progressing in a healthy and sustainable way. AspireAssist also includes access to an online community — a resource for support, motivation and advice.

Is it reversible?

Yes. AspireAssist can be removed in a simple, 10-minute procedure.
