Orbera™ Managed Weight Loss System

The Orbera™ Intragastric Balloon is a weight loss aid for adults who have a body mass index (BMI) of 30 to 40, and who have trouble losing weight with diet and exercise alone. Please note that Orbera is only offered in our Baton Rouge, Louisiana locations and in Houston with Dr. Isaac Raijman and Dr. Dang Nguyen.

The Orbera™ Weight Loss System is a safe and effective, non-surgical weight loss system designed to provide effective, motivating results. The two-part program is FDA approved and designed to achieve long-term weight loss by slowing the digestion of food and encouraging healthy portion control. On average, Orbera patients lose 3.1 times more weight than with diet and exercise alone.

About the Procedure (Placement and Removal)

This non-surgical procedure is done by board-certified gastroenterologists, highly skilled in endoscopy procedures and protocols. While under mild sedative, the thin and deflated Orbera™ balloon is placed into the stomach. It is then filled with saline until it’s about the size of a grapefruit. The procedure typically takes about 20-30 minutes so patients can go home the same day as the procedure.

At six months, the balloon is removed in the same way it was placed. Through a non-surgical procedure done under a mild sedative, it is deflated first then removed.

What to Expect

With the Orbera™ Weight Loss System, patients can expect the weight to come off rapidly within the first three months of the program. The procedure, coupled with the nutritional program, provide you with the structure and support to be successful in achieving your weight loss goals.
