About Bryce Mays, M.D.

Why did you choose to specialize in Gastroenterology?

I chose gastroenterology as a specialty because of my interest in gastrointestinal physiology and the wide spectrum of gastrointestinal disorders. I also very much enjoy the balance between procedural and clinical medicine that gastroenterology offers.

Do you have a specialty of interest within GI?

I have a clinical interest in pancreaticobiliary disorders, inflammatory bowel disease, general gastrointestinal disorders, colon cancer screening, and advanced endoscopic procedures such as EUS and ERCP.

Where did you study?

I received my undergraduate and medical degrees from the University of Tennessee. My Internal Medicine Residency and Gastroenterology fellowship were completed at Eisenhower Army Medical center and Walter Reed Army Medical Center respectively. I also completed a fourth year of training in Interventional Endoscopy at Maine Medical Center/Tufts University.

Board Certified in Gastroenterology

What do you and your family enjoy doing in your spare time?

I enjoy golf, fishing, and reading military and political history, my family and I also enjoy travelling and spending time with family.

Do you have any special honors or recognition in your medical career that you would like to share?

I served twenty-one years in the United States Army Medical Corps and retired in 2017 at the rank of colonel. Prior to my retirement, I served as the Regional Director for Gastroenterology for the military treatment facilities in Washington DC and lastly as chief of gastroenterology at Brooke Army Medical Center in San Antonio.
