Why did you choose to specialize in Gastroenterology?
Gastroenterology is an exciting field, in that it involves numerous organs of the body and thus numerous disease processes. There is also a nice blend of intellectual and procedural activity. The difference in the inpatient and outpatient practice of Gastroenterology also keeps things fun.
Do you have a specialty of interest within GI?
The beauty of Gastroenterology is that all the areas within the specialty are of interest to me. One day may be filled with colon cancer screening in the outpatient setting, the next day inflammatory bowel disease, followed by GI bleeding in the hospital.

Undergrad: Baylor University, Medical School: The University of Texas Medical Branch at Galveston, Residency and Fellowship: Wake Forest University/Baptist Medical Center

MD Board Certified in Internal Medicine and Gastroenterology
What do you and your family enjoy doing in your spare time?
Having children in high school pretty much takes care of the “spare time.” My wife and I are very involved with the kids activities of Taekwondo and band. We spend a lot of time with the high-schoolers at White’s Chapel UMC. When there is time, we like to go to the lake, ski in Colorado, or hang out on any beach we can get to.

The procedure went perfectly. The staff, nurses, and Dr. Smith delivered a timely, comfortable, and friendly experience. The prep was confusing. Communications, via text, phone, and email need better coordination.

Dr Jeffrey has been my gastroenterologist for many years now. He is an amazing doctor, one who goes over and above for his patients. His bedside manner is caring and gentle, when he talks to you about your symptoms or the test he runs he makes very sure that you understand what he is saying. He is also very respectful of your feelings. I can not even begin to tell you how thankful I am to have him caring for me.

Once at the facility foe the colonoscopy everything was excellent. The only challenge I had was that the procedure was scheduled for about 3 months out and they were supposed to call in for the prep medications about 2 weeks prior to procedure day. Instead the prep medications were called in about 3 months early. So I picked them up and stored them for the 3 months. I didn't see the sequential preparation directions until I had already missed some of them. Very fortunate that this was about my 4th colonoscopy. Even though the medication and prep directions changed from what I remembered, I at least got a hold of the directions the day before. I drank about 3 times the minimum to help ensure I flushed well. This was the 1st time things fell apart prior to 1 day before procedure day.
I will give Dr Jeffery Smith and Lone Star Endoscopy the opportunity to do my next one and assume this was a 1 time mishandling of the pre procedure events.
As stated, once there I can't imagine any place doing as well and have as professional and personable of a team.

Each nurse and technician I dealt with seemed very personable, capable and professional. Did not have to wait more than a few minutes in waiting room or anywhere else throughout my procedure. Dr. Smith is also a true professional. Highly recommend.

Dr. Smith and the entire staff are phenomenal! From the first person to greet us to the recovery, they make you comfortable and they care.
My EGD and colonoscopy were smooth from the beginning to the end. The reception nurse was helpful checking me in, the prep nurse was professional, and Dr Smith came by to discuss the procedure and my previous test results before and the procedure was good. I thank all of them especially Dr Smith for his care.
I really liked the staff. I didn’t like the whole checking process. I had to do all the work. At one point I thought I would have to do my own colonoscopy! I found the text message reminders excessive. Once I was in for the procedure I felt well taken care of. Dr Smith answered all my questions. I hope he doesn’t retire before I have to come back in 5 years.
This was my 1st time to see Dr. Smith, during my visit at least 5 different people handled me through the process….each and every person was informative and very much cared about me as a patient.

Attending nurses were extremely pleasant and comforting, I felt very much at ease, Dr. Smith and the anesthesiologist were both vey informative and pleasant to communicate with. I felt little very little stress if any at all about the whole process and procedures.
