Why did you choose to specialize in Gastroenterology?
I have a family history of colon cancer and colon polyps and as a gastroenterologist I am able to prevent colon cancer on a daily basis. Additionally, while GI diseases are extremely common, each patient’s symptoms and treatment course are individualized; working with patients to find a successful treatment plan is extremely rewarding.
Do you have a specialty of interest within GI?
As a female gastroenterologist I have am particularly aware and accustom to treating women with gastrointestinal diseases. I also treat general hepatology conditions such as chronic viral hepatitis, Autoimmune hepatitis (AIH), Primary Biliary Cholangitis (PBC), and steatohepatitis (“fatty liver disease”).
Where did you study?
Undergraduate: Baylor University, Medical School: University of Texas Medical Branch, Internal Medicine Residency and training in Gastroenterology and Hepatology: Baylor University Medical Center.
What certifications do you hold?
Board Certified in Internal Medicine, Gastroenterology and Hepatology.
What do you and your family enjoy doing in your spare time?
Life is busy with my husband and three small children. We enjoy traveling (when possible), outdoor sports and spending time with our family and friends in the area.
Do you have any special honors or recognition in your medical career that you would like to share?
Honor society (AOA) in my medical school class. Resident of the Year during my Internal Medicine Residency.

Dr. Steffer and her staff were wonderful! The ladies at the front desk explained everything Regarding our insurance. The nurses before the procedure and after were Patient and caring. The anesthesiologist answered my questions about having a paralyzed vocal cord and didn’t make me feel rushed at all. Dr. Steffer came by before the procedure and after. She explained everything and put my mind at ease. We will definitely be back!

The toughest part about getting a colonoscopy is the week leading up to the procedure. What to drink, what to eat, and then the flushing of the colon. Dr. Steffer is kind, professional, and a real pleasure to have her as my doctor. She has performed three procedures for me and she and her staff make an embarrassing procedure for me a very nice experience. I am a bit OCD trying to memorize the names of every professional whom I enteract with while I am being prepped to go under for the procedure. I remember Chris, Greta, Leslie, Ann, and Showanda, who all had a hand helping Dr. Steffer help make my stay pleasant. In fact instead of counting backwards to go under anesthesia, I remember saying each person's name. Next thing I knew, I dreamt one of my dogs was trying to get my attention, but it was Ann waking me up.
First class experience all the way around. Very professional, kind and sincere.

Runs like a well oiled machine. Everyone from the front desk to the one walking you out is very compassionate and caring. Very efficient and great facility.
Dr. Steffer has been my daughters G.I. since 2016 and she is the absolute best! She takes her time, is personable and kind, and listens without judgement. She is always open to discussing various options for treatment and also does a great job if you need scopes. We are blessed to have her!

I even got a phone call yesterday from them to.check on me after my procedure and make sure I didn't have any problems after I got home, and that any and all of my questions have been answered.
