About Nandini Nagaraj, M.D.
Why did you choose to specialize in Gastroenterology?
Initially, managing patients with Inflammatory Bowel Disease is what drew me to this specialty. But then, this specialty also involves managing disorders of multiple organs like liver, pancreas, esophagus, stomach and intestines, and I like the variety it offered. Also, it is a good blend of clinical and hands-on skills (procedures including endoscopy and colonoscopy) which is what I relish. Performing preventative screening colonoscopies to prevent colon cancer gives me great job satisfaction.
Do you have a specialty of interest within GI?
I am interested in managing patients with Inflammatory Bowel Disease and preventing colon cancer.
Where did you study?
Internship: Drexel University College of Medicine, Residency: University of Texas Health Science Center, Fellowship in gastroenterology: University of Texas Medical Branch.

What do you and your family enjoy doing in your spare time?
I enjoy traveling and music, and just spending time with my family.

I have published several articles in multiple medical journals and presented my research at several national meetings, including ASGE and ACG. I was selected for a Visiting IBD fellowship program by the Crohn’s Colitis Foundation of America. I have also written a text book chapter on Inflammatory Bowel Disease in Bailey’s textbook of Surgery.

Excellent experience. The SUTAB bowel prep pills are great. Much better than the old liquid prep.
Very cordial and professional. Enjoyed our conversation about my issues and the input for helping me with my ailments.
Dr. Nagaraj is helpful and listens and helps you navigate what is happening. She is very empathetic and kind.
Friendly staff and procedure went quickly and smoothly.
Went go go see her on the 21st of October. She listened to all my symptoms and really listened to my concerns. It seemed she had similar concerns and she worked me in for a procedure on the 31st. Due to fault of my own I was not able to make that appt. The office called thinking that I just denied having the procedure done and that Dr Nagaraj really thinks I need it. They worked with me with my insurance and I was able to have it done in the 5th of November. She was very professional and she broke all the big language into words I could understand. She preformed the procedure and removed polyps. When I was done she explained to myself wife and I step by step what she did and the possible steps to come. She has great people skills and is good at what she does. I would recommend her to anyone that needs a gasterologist. A couple days after my initial appt I had severe pain so I called the after hours number for the office and she happened to be the on call Dr. She called me back with in 15 mins and told me to go to the ER. I am very glad and thankful that she was my doctor's referral. She listened and answered all my questions. Then got me in quick to help figure out the problem a d fix it. Her and the surgery center took really good card of me. The workers at the center are super nice as well and they made me smile several times which was a good thing because I was so nervous. They were on top of it when I was in recovery to make sure I was ok.
