About John Cluley, M.D.
Why did you choose to specialize in Gastroenterology?
The gut is fascinating to me. While I like to keep the gut healthy, the pathology and the diversity of gastrointestinal diseases always keeps me thinking and interested. I also like that everyone can relate to having a GI issue at some point in their life, which makes our specialty very relevant and important.
Do you have a specialty of interest within GI?
I believe food is the greatest medicine, so I am particularly interested in nutrition. The evolving study of the gut microbiome and its effect on our overall health is also one of my areas of interest.
Where did you study?
Medical School: University of Texas Health Science Center San Antonio, Internal Medicine Residency: Northwestern University, Gastroenterology & Hepatology Fellowship: University of Texas Southwestern in Dallas.
What certifications do you hold?
I am board certified in both Internal Medicine and Gastroenterology/Hepatology.
What do you and your family enjoy doing in your spare time?
I enjoy doing Crossfit, cooking and eating healthy whole foods, and traveling. We have a Goldendoodle puppy named Halsted (aka “Steddy”) who makes us smile and laugh every day.
Do you have any special honors or recognitions in your medical career that you would like to share?
In medical school I was elected into the Alpha Omega Alpha Honor Medical Society by graduating in the top ten percent of my program. In residency, I earned the Landsberg Award as the most outstanding resident in our graduating class. In fellowship, I was chosen as Chief Fellow for our fellowship program.
Do you fluently speak any other languages in addition to English?
I was a Spanish major in college and continue to speak it proficiently.
Please list your professional affiliations.
I am a member of American Gastroenterological Association, American Society for Gastrointestinal Endoscopy, and Texas Society for Gastroenterology & Endoscopy.

Reviews
I have been seeing Dr. Cluely for years now he is a great Dr. Cares about his patients and has great bedside manners. 10 out of 10
The staff from the nurses. techs and Dr. were extremely professional and kind. I was super stressed but they put my mind at ease.
From the moment I arrived I was welcomed. Everyone was kind everyone had a role and were amazing. The Dr.came to introduce himself and the anesthesiologist came as expected but it was the kindness. No one wants to have to get a colonoscopy although it’s something that should be done. All the staff were all wonderful. I greatly appreciated your help.
Busy office but I didn't wait long at all. Dr. and staff we're so friendly and helpful. Would recommend them.
Had my first colonoscopy with Dr. John Cluley this week, this guy is awesome! He was very informative made me very comfortable with what procedures were taking place, and has really eased my mind about future care. I highly recommend Dr Cluley and have already been referring family and friend to his practice…
