Why did you choose to specialize in Gastroenterology?

Early in my medical training I was drawn to the demands of an expert gastroenterologist. I enjoy the challenge of combining the understanding of the internal medicine physician along with the dexterity of a skilled endoscopist. Both managing a condition with a procedure or establishing a relationship with my patients are incredibly fulfilling.

Do you have a specialty of interest within GI?

Although I am drawn to all areas of gastroenterology, I am keenly interested in the prevention of colon cancer by colonoscopy and in the treatment of pancreas and bile duct conditions via advanced endoscopic techniques.

Where did you study?

My undergraduate degree is from Texas State University and I went to medical school at Loma Linda University School of Medicine in Loma Linda, California. My internship, residency, and fellowship were at Baylor Scott & White Medical Center in Temple, Texas.

What certifications do you hold?

Board Certified in Internal Medicine.

What do you and your family enjoy doing in your spare time?

I enjoy staying active by playing soccer, running, and body weight lifting exercises. My family and I like to travel in our pop-up camper, and we look forward to discovering new hiking trails.

Do you have any special honors or recognitions in your medical career that you would like to share?

During my gastroenterology training, I had the opportunity to train in advanced endoscopy, specialized procedures to diagnose and treat pancreatic and biliary diseases. I anticipate these skills will be another way to serve our community.

Do you fluently speak any other languages in addition to English?

Growing up in a Hispanic household, my first language was Spanish which I continue to speak fluently.
