Dr. Marek was born and raised in Texas, growing up working in his family’s automotive business outside of Dallas. As a first-generation college student, he attended Baylor University on a Presidential Scholarship, where he excelled in the rigorous Interdisciplinary Core curriculum, participated in the Honors Program, and served in the Baylor Chamber of Commerce. He graduated cum laude with a Bachelor of Arts in Psychology before earning his Doctorate of Medicine from the University of Texas at Houston Medical School. He completed his internal medicine internship and residency at the University of Alabama at Birmingham, one of the top 10 internal medicine programs in the nation, where he was honored with several awards, including a peer-elected recognition as one of the program’s top residents. His passion for intellectual challenge and hands-on procedural care then led him to a fellowship in Gastroenterology at the Medical College of Georgia. He has since presented at multiple national conferences and helped author a leading textbook in the field of gastroenterology.
Dr. Marek is trained in the full range of advanced endoscopic procedures, including upper endoscopy (EGD), colonoscopy, and ERCP (a specialized procedure used to diagnose and treat conditions of the bile duct and pancreas). He has extensive experience with luminal stent placement, endoscopic mucosal resection, and wireless capsule endoscopy, and is trained in the CRH O’Regan System, an advanced, minimally invasive approach to hemorrhoid treatment performed without surgery. Dr. Marek is committed to bringing the latest advances in GI care to his patients, and is board certified in Gastroenterology.
In 2001, Dr. Marek married his wife, Shanan. Together they have four children: sons Cole, Mason, and Grant, and daughter Lauren. He is an active member of The Springs Church in New Braunfels. Dr. Marek is a past president of the local medical society, currently serves as managing partner of TDDC San Marcos–New Braunfels, and sits on TDDC’s Clinical Governance Board. He also dedicated 12 years to the school board at New Braunfels Christian Academy, including nine years in board leadership as President and Vice President. Staying true to his family’s entrepreneurial roots, he also built, ran, and later sold a local car wash business. Outside of work, family, friends, and his faith community are his top priorities. An avid outdoorsman with a passion for travel, Dr. Marek enjoys hunting, hiking, and camping, and spends much of his free time at the family ranch in the Texas Hill Country, where he and his family raise exotic wildlife. Grounded by his humble beginnings and love for his family, Dr. Marek is driven by a simple goal: making the complex world of medicine feel understandable, and every patient feel truly heard.
